A more humane and non-lethal mouse trap is a live trap that allows you to capture the mouse alive and then release it somewhere else, far away from your home. Here is a description:

  1. Construction: A live mousetrap is usually made of plastic or metal and has an entrance for the mouse to enter and a spring mechanism that closes the entrance when the mouse steps on it.

  2. Spring mechanism: When the mouse enters the trap and steps on the spring mechanism, a lock is released that closes the entrance to the trap. This prevents the mouse from getting out again once it is trapped.

  3. Bait: To attract the mouse, a bait such as cheese, nuts or grain is placed inside the trap. When the mouse goes for the bait and steps on the spring mechanism, the trap closes and the mouse is trapped inside.

  4. Safety and animal welfare: Live mouse traps are designed to provide a safe and gentle capture of the mouse without harming it. There is air flow and ventilation to ensure that the mouse does not suffer during the capture process.

  5. Release: Once the mouse is trapped, be sure to release it in a suitable location, far away from your home and in an area where it can find food and shelter. Ideally, you should release the mouse at least 1-2 kilometers away from your home to prevent it from returning.

Live mousetraps are a more ethical alternative to dealing with mice as they allow you to solve the problem without harming or killing the animals. Once the mouse/rat is trapped, you should make sure you take the necessary precautions to avoid coming into contact with the mouse as they can carry diseases. It is recommended to wear gloves and avoid handling the mouse directly when releasing it.
